LETTER BOMBS

THE Twitter account of the Russian embassy in Spain posted a statement late this week condemning “any threat or terrorist act” in relation to the five letter bombs sent to government offices, private companies and the Ukrainian embassy in Madrid.

“Any threat or terrorist act, particularly directed at a diplomatic mission, are to be totally condemned,” a Reuters report quoting the statement said.

The Spanish defence ministry received a package with explosive materials, similar to five other packages previously sent to different places in Spain during the week, Sputnik News reported.

On Wednesday, the 20 Minutos newspaper reported that an employee of the Ukrainian embassy in Madrid was slightly injured when a device hidden in a mail envelope exploded.

Serhii Pohoreltsev later said it was a package with documents that exploded near the embassy rather than an envelope.

Later that day, Spanish arms firm Instalaza, based in the city of Zaragoza, received a package similar to the one that exploded near the Ukrainian embassy.
