THE role of law enforcement agencies investigating the Phala Phala matter involving President Cyril Ramaphosa has raised questions.

Commenting on the saga, Professor Bheki Mngomezulu of UWC said the delay by law enforcement agencies to investigate the matter may have been to buy time before the ANC conference this month. “They might have wanted to delay the matter until after the conference. They didn’t want to rock the boat,” he said.

A panel, chaired by retired Chief Justice Sandile Ngcobo, had 30 days to investigate and made its findings this week, saying that Ramaphosa had a case to answer.

However, Prof Dirk Kotze of Unisa said the work of the law agencies is more comprehensive than the panel and the parliamentary process which had a fixed period in which to do the work. |
