MAKE your school holidays fun by creating your own Christmas decorations. According to the I Heart Crafty Things website, you have everything you need to make the best festive decorations already inside your home and stationery box. Let’s start by creating a Santa with a white fluffy beard.

Cut Santa’s face from white paper.

1. Remember, his face needs to be round or oval.

2. Next, cut two small circles and colour them black for the eyes, and two larger ones for the cheeks and colour them pink.

3. Draw the nose using a black crayon or pencil.

4. Use red and white paper for the hat. First cut the bottom rim, making an almost rectangular shape. For the hat itself, cut a triangle-like shape. Paste the white at the bottom of the red hat shape and take the item and paste it onto the face using glue.

Now Santa has a hat, eyes and nose. Don’t worry about the mouth, this will be covered by cotton wool.

5. Here is the exciting part, paste the cotton wool at the bottom of the nose to create a fluffy white beard.

6. Ask an adult for help cut two tiny holes in the hat and add string. You can now hang your Santa from a tree or anywhere inside your home.

To make a Christmas tree, all you will need is a paper plate, glue, green paint or a green crayon and ribbon, any colour of material and sequins or anything that can used as decorations on your tree. For example, cut up and use old tinsel to decorate.

1. Start by painting your paper plate green. Let it dry completely. If you do not have paint, colour the plate with crayons or pencils.

2. When your paper plate is dry, cut it into thirds, then cut one of the sections a bit smaller. When you layer them together with the smallest one

on top, you will have a Christmas tree shape. Remember to glue them together.

3. Use a hole punch to punch six holes across the bottom of each paper plate section or you could ask an adult to help you cut the holes.

4. Cut a 12-inch section of ribbon for each paper plate section and lace

them through the holes. Start by bringing the ribbon up from the back of the paper plate into the first hole and then continue through the holes, finishing with the excess ribbon hanging off the back of the paper plate.

5. Tape the excess pieces of ribbon to the back of the paper plate to hold them in place.

6. When you are finished lacing the ribbon, staple them together onto your Christmas tree.

7. Finish you paper plate Christmas tree craft by stapling (or gluing) on a brown tree stump cut out from brown paper and adding a foam star sticker at the top.

8. To decorate, glue on sequins, pieces of tinsel or anything shiny for the final touches.
