The Look Book: how to get ‘Show Me The Honey’ right

BUHLE MBONAMBI buhle.mbonambi@inl.co.za

SHOW Me The Honey is not an easy theme. There are so many ways to interpret it that it may become too complex to execute.

However, it shouldn’t be that deep. It’s either you wear the colours, or go for the texture of the bee’s body, the wings and how translucent they are.

Be inspired by the flowers and the pollen the bees collect and then, of course, the characteristics of honey. Look at the shape of the honeycomb. Look at how honey drips. How it flows and folds when poured out of a bottle.

And what about the beekeeper? There are various ways you can be inspired by apiarists in terms of the garments they wear when harvesting honey, without it being literal.

We have taken all these things into consideration when compiling our Look Book, which should inspire you with interesting ways you can interpret the theme and still look event-appropriate at the Hollywoodbets Durban July next week.

The Apiarist

The most important thing for an apiarist is the PPE. The veiled hat and the gloves. Be inspired by both these items and give them a high fashion twist.

Dripping Like Honey

From the body-con dresses that stick to the body like honey to the silhouettes that signify the way honey flows when it’s in liquid form.

Flower Power

There would be no honey without the flowers where bees get their pollen. Hence flower prints and embroidery make sense.

Sting Like a Bee

Whether you wear gold, black or yellow or choose to look at the texture of the bee and various other elements, like the shape of the bee, there’s a lot you can be inspired by.

Classic Racewear

Let’s be honest – not everyone is brave enough to use the theme to be inspired for their outfit. But still, looking the part is important. Elegant, classic and event-appropriate beats looking like a fashion victim.
