GVB crimes
PARLIAMENT believes the passing of a bill that will allow for the taking of DNA samples from prisoners convicted for serious crimes will assist in the crack down against serious crimes and genderbased violence (GBV).
The Criminal Law (Forensic Procedures) Bill was passed by the committee. Chairperson of the portfolio committee on police Tina JoematPettersson said on Wednesday that the bill now has to go to the National Assembly for approval.
The passing of the bill comes as more GBV cases are reported across the country. Civil society, political parties, gender groups, and other role-players have been urging the government to tighten measures. |
