THE NEW school year started with big smiles around Cape Town as some pupils looked forward not only to a new chapter in their lives, but also to meeting new friends. With their new stationery, uniform and energy, this is what some Jellybeans had to say: Arya Ngwenya, Grade R at Cannons Creek Independent School

“I feel happy and excited to go to school because I love meeting new people and being in my classroom. Looking forward to doing lots of artwork and when I grow up, I want to be a doctor so that I can help people who are sick or get hurt. I’m going to work really hard in school all the time.” Keira Nivison, Grade 1 at Cannons Creek

“I am most excited about playing in the jungle gym ‘cause it’s very, very high up and I’ve never played in a jungle gym that high. “I’m looking forward to doing my homework and working hard to become a teacher like my mother.” Bienveillance Kinamvuidi, Grade 2 at Southfield Primary

“For my first day of school, my mommy packed for me a healthy lunch box with fruits and yoghurt. She said I needed it so that I could stay strong and focus when the teacher is talking. I am so excited for this year and I cannot wait to tell my friends about what I did for the holidays.” Jessica Anthony, Grade R from Table View

“I feel very excited for school, I can’t wait to see my friend and my teacher.

“I love learning to write new words and playing with my friend. When I grow up I want to be a vet.” Bailey Swarts, Grade 1 at Cannons Creek

“I feel nervous and excited at the same time. I am excited to see what my classroom looks like. One day I want to become a vet.” Tayla Magaar, Grade 1 at Tuscany Glen Primary School

“I was very nervous to meet my new teacher, but she was very nice. I was very excited to see some of my friends from my Grade R class.”
