Miss SA inspires girls to find their magic with her own story

THANDILE KONCO

IN THE spirit of anti-bullying and mental health awareness, Miss South Africa Shudufhadzo Musida visited Rustenburg Girls’ Junior School this week to promote her book, Shudu Finds Her Magic, in an effort to inspire girls to find their own.

The book, part of Musida’s beauty with a purpose campaign for Miss World, follows Musida and her struggle with bullying throughout her school career.

It is published by Jacana Media and is available nationwide in six languages that target children between the ages of four and nine.

Musida said it was important to educate children on mental health because it would help to destigmatise it in the future.

“I wanted young girls to be inspired to speak up for themselves until they are heard. As long as you are willing to speak up, there is always someone willing to listen, and this is the message I wanted to pass on to young women and young girls. That abuse of any kind is not okay.”

Musida said everyone in society had a role to play.

“When we work together as a collective, we tackle so much and can achieve so much in our societies.”
