Ethiopia

UN HUMANITARIAN chief Martin Griffiths began his first mission this week to conflict-torn Ethiopia where 90% of Tigray’s population requires humanitarian assistance.

Griffiths said millions in Ethiopia required help as the conflict had added to challenges such as floods, food insecurity, Covid-19 and the desert locust infestation.

He planned to visit Tigray, the northern region of Ethiopia where armed conflict has been ongoing since November 2020. Ninety percent, or

5.2 million people, of Tigray’s population requires humanitarian assistance.
