THE Best Gift book, by Hani du Toit, helps children identify their gifts in life.

“I discovered that often people don’t necessarily have a clear understanding of what they’re good at, what their gifts are and what they bring to the world,” Du Toit said.

She said it’s important for children to explore and be aware of the different gifts they have.

Some of the gifts are skills and talents that develop through playing sports, through trying different things, but some are in one’s character, behaviour and interaction with other people.

“The book is about becoming aware of our diverse gifts and appreciating them and identifying what gifts are worth practising every day,” she said.

She said her 11-year-old nephew inspired her to write the book. He always wants to try new things. His parents are both medical professionals and it is easy to be distracted, thinking you need to do one thing really well.

Du Toit said the book leaves children with questions like, have they unpacked all their gifts?
