RAMADAAN

SOUTH Africa’s ethnic, cultural and religious diversity was exhibited in the courtyard of the Nizamiye Mosque of Midrand, as politicians, academics, media, business people and members of faith-based community celebrated an iftar dinner with Muslims, writes Turkmen Terzi.

More than 200 people were seated according to Covid-19 rules in the two different iftar programmes in the first and last week of Ramadaan, starting with a Qur’an recital. Guests enjoyed briyani and Turkish cuisine dishes on the iftar menu.

Nizamiye Mosque is the biggest in the Southern Hemisphere. For Ramadaan, it has distributed food parcels to 2 000 needy families in townships. | IOL
