DURBAN: Alert border officials found an estimated 200kg of cocaine hidden inside a truck travelling from Mozambique to South Africa at the Lebombo border post in Mpumalanga. The office of the provincial commissioner in Mpumalanga said that the cocaine had an estimated street value of R29.3 million. According to the authorities, while officials were still busy, the driver snuck away under the pretence that he was going to get hold of the truck owner. Officials said that the “driver disappeared into thin air” before the drugs were discovered. | IOL

CAPE TOWN: The City of Cape Town has condemned the hijacking of a roads contractor while performing maintenance work in Delft. The City of Cape Town said it was condemning the criminal act in the strongest terms, and urged members of the Delft community to come forward with any information regarding the incident. Mayoral committee member for urban mobility, Rob Quintas, said: “Not only has this left the contractor without the means to complete his work, it has traumatised the roads teams in the area who are now unwilling to enter the area.”
