ASYLUM

FOREIGN nationals whose applications for asylum in South Africa were rejected do not automatically have the right in law to reapply.

If they did, this would allow for a never-ending cycle of asylum applications, according to a judgment by the Western Cape High Court.

This followed an application by three Burundian nationals who applied for asylum in South Africa.

Their applications were rejected as being manifestly unfounded in terms of the Refugees Act. | IOL

KOKO

FORMER Eskom chief executive officer Matshela Koko has declined calls from Twitter users who want him to be reinstated to save South Africa from recurring blackouts. The hashtag Koko was one of the trending topics on Twitter as State 6 blackouts continued. A majority of Twitter users following the hashtag called for the government to bring Koko back because under his leadership at Eskom, load shedding did not occur. When contacted for comment on Wednesday, Koko said: “I will not work for any stateowned enterprise again.” | IOL
