Unemployment leads to chaos
THE article “Leadership vacuum and poverty lead to unrest” (Cape Argus, Tuesday) refers.
What is clear is that unemployment will eventually lead to unrest on an ongoing basis. The latest quarterly review shows that we have almost, officially, 50% unemployment. This is unsustainable.
In every other country in the world evidencing even 25% unemployment it has led to absolute mayhem and chaos.
What we saw in KwaZuluNatal and Gauteng will be repeated on a more regular basis until the government actually does something about the unemployment crisis.
We fully understand that this crisis can be avoided by creating a conducive environment for small businesses to create jobs.
A simple exercise of allowing businesses under 50 employees to be able to terminate employment without process in that first 12 months would encourage small business to take more chances and employ more people.
