WITH fresh memories of police inaction during the July violence and looting, the possible suspension of National SAPS Commissioner Khehla Sitole raises further concerns about election-related security issues, writes Mary de Haas. Sitole’s appointment has seen an improvement in accountability. But grossly irregular interference in operational matters by Minister of Police Bheki Cele is hampering the fight against crime. It is crucial that non-political community members of standing engage with policing through joining community policing forums. |
