Cape Argus E-dition

Complaining of space tourism is regressive

THE Cape Argus is often a good source of material for one of my letters, but the Friday edition didn't offer much inspiration.

Yes, Teflon-coated Jacob Zuma offered his wisdom as usual, but disparaging him is too easy.

Then, on page 7 of the “Insider” I spotted a pearl of wisdom from none other than Prince William of the

British royal family.

He complains about space tourism and that the money spent on such should be used to fix problems here on Earth rather than looking for another place to live.

That’s the kind of thinking that would have us still living in caves.

Colonising another planet, Mars say, is what could ensure the continuation of the human race should Earth be annihilated by a planet-buster asteroid like the one that did away with the dinosaurs.

Unlikely? Tell that to the 16 or 17 hundred inhabitants injured by the meteoroid that exploded over Chelyabinsk in 2013 – 7 200 buildings were damaged. PHIL GREENLEES | Pinelands
