Surgery

GROOTE Schuur Hospital in Cape Town will become the first public hospital in Africa to perform robotic surgery, having launched the Da Vinci Xi fourth-generation robot to be used in theatres. The new Da Vinci Xi system will advance the technology used in minimally invasive surgery for complex conditions in gynaecology, urology, cardiothoracic, colorectal and general surgery. The robotics surgery will allow for a short hospital stay and recovery time, less pain and scarring, reduced infection and blood loss and more precise surgery. |
