Another Zulu royal family showdown

THE Zulu royal family has been rocked by a fresh verbal showdown between Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi and the royal rebels led by Princess Thembi Zulu-Ndlovu after a meeting between King Misuzulu KaZwelithini and Princess Nombuso Zulu, the senior daughter of the late King Goodwill Zwelithini, was blocked at the eleventh hour.

It was not clear who initiated the meeting, but royal sources told Independent Media that Princess Nombuso, one of the daughters of Queen Sibongile Dlamini who initiated the pending royal court battle before the skirmishes over the throne, was close to King Misuzulu.

When Buthelezi and those on the side of King Misuzulu got wind of the meeting, they blocked it. That prompted Princess Thembi, senior sister of the late King Goodwill Zwelithini, to write a heated email to Buthelezi accusing him of blocking siblings from meeting and talking about issues they deemed important.

Addressing the media from KwaKhangelamankengane Palace in Nongoma yesterday, Buthelezi shared the email from Princess Thembi and justified his decision by saying the two siblings could not meet amid a pending court case.

“In light of this and the present litigation, His Majesty King Misuzulu was compelled to decline travelling to KwaKhethomtandayo Royal Palace yesterday to meet Princess Nombuso, who is among those contesting his authority. As the matter is sub judice, the law prevents such meeting taking place. I was therefore taken aback to receive a message from Princess Thembi accusing me of preventing His Majesty from meeting with his sister.”
